Engineering Summer Students (Co-op)

The City of Langford Engineering Department has an opening for two (2) students to take on a summer work terms from May to September (exact start date is negotiable). This is an exciting opportunity to support the City’s asset inventory process by conducting reviews of all assets including: roads, culverts, signs, streetlights, and playpark equipment!
The successful candidates will be responsible for collecting field data with a handheld GPS unit, undertaking condition assessments of the infrastructure, and downloading the information to appropriate electronic filing locations. Examples of field work include walking and cataloguing culvert sizing, roads, signage, streetlights, and/or playpark equipment. The successful candidates may also be undertaking annual sidewalk inspections or assist in annual creek inspections.
Our ideal candidates will be proven team players who are proficient in Excel spreadsheets. Preference will be given to civil engineering/engineering technologist candidates with experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings as they relate to road, sidewalk, utilities (water, sewer, storm) and other civil infrastructure, as well as experience in G.I.S and the use of GPS equipment. Candidates must be comfortable working outside, in all weather conditions, and must hold a valid BC Driver’s licence.
The rate of pay for this position is $23.00 per hour plus 13% in lieu of benefits and vacation.
