The City of Langford is in search of a skilled and organized individual to take on the role of FireSmart Coordinator at our Langford Fire Rescue department. The FireSmart team supports wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation through public education, assessments, and mitigative work to reduce community risk from wildfires.

This position works collaboratively with other Emergency Program and Fire Department staff to support plans and to achieve strategic organizational goals. The Fire Smart Coordinator will provide departmental updates and relevant reports to the Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention related to FireSmart initiatives.

Candidates should have:

• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent and two (2) years related experience including facilitation and presentation delivery (or an equivalent combination)
• Completion of Fire Smart 101
• A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence
• Possession of, or ability to obtain Local FireSmart Representative qualifications
• Previous experience with fire safety or FireSmart Program and NFPA 1035 Public Educator Level I is considered an asset

This temporary position will run from October 2, 2023 to August 30, 2024. The salary range offered for this temporary, full-time position is $35.03 per hour, plus 13% in lieu of benefits and vacation, plus a 35-hour modified workweek schedule with flex days.
