Co-op Student (Finance)

The City of Langford Finance department has an opening for a 4-month work term starting in May 2026. In this public-facing position, you will provide a variety of first line support to residents in person, over the phone, and via email. This role will also consist of specific assignments with a focus on property tax collection, along with a variety of routine and standard accounting functions. This is a great opportunity to receive practical experience in a municipal finance environment!
In this position, you will have the opportunity to:
- Process in-person transactions, including property tax payment, permits, and invoices
- Receive and respond to enquiries and requests for information, advice, and direction from external and internal clients, either in-person or by phone/email
- Prepare tax documents requested by homeowners, including tax notices, tax certificates, tax reminder letters, and receipts of payment
- Provide homeowners with information on Provincial programs as they relate to Municipal property taxes.
- Draft letters and other department correspondence as required
Qualifications for this position include:
- Currently working towards a post-secondary credential in Business Administration, Local Government Administration, or related field
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal with customers in a professional manner
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office products, particularly word and Excel, electronic cash receipting systems, and experience working with financial database software (Microsoft Dynamics/Diamond and Papersave would be considered an asset).
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Able to process a variety of confidential materials with discretion and integrity
- Ability to interpret and comply with procedures and policies
- Strong communication, problem solving and organizational skills
- Basic knowledge of the functions, methods, rules, procedures, bylaws, regulations and policies pertaining to Municipal Government would be considered an asset
The salary is $25.58 per hour plus 13% in lieu of benefits, and hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
