Langford is home to several national and provincial-level teams that play and train in the City, including Rugby Canada, Pacific Football Club, Tennis Canada, Golf Canada, Cycling Canada, Rowing BC and Boxing BC. These teams train at of some of Langford’s world-class training facilities, including the Al Charron National Training Centre, Island Training Centre, the Bear Mountain Tennis Centre and more.
Major sporting events
The City of Langford is no stranger to hosting world-renowned sporting events. To name a few, Langford hosted the 2016 PGA Tour Champions and 2017 Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship golf tournaments, the Boxing BC 2019 Super Channel Championships, the 2020 Pan Am Cross Country Championship and many other exciting world-class sporting events. Among the likes of cities such as Dubai, Cape Town, Sydney, Los Angeles, Vancouver, London, Paris, Singapore and Hong Kong, Langford also plays host to the annual HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series at Starlight Stadium.
Pacific Football Club, Rugby Canada’s Senior Women 7s team and the West Shore Rebels all call Langford’s Starlight Stadium home. On game days, the Stadium is the place to be, packed full of loyal fans ready to cheer on their home team.
Training year-round on Vancouver Island, Canada’s international teams have achieved unprecedented success in recent years.
Pacific FC is based out of Langford’s newly redesigned Starlight Stadium, accommodating upwards of 6,000 spectators.
The Westshore Rebels are part of the British Columbia Football Conference of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).
The Junior A Victoria Grizzlies ice hockey team are a part of the Island Division of the British Columbia Hockey League. They play out of the Q Centre arena at West Shore Parks and Recreation.
The Victoria Shamrocks are a Senior A box lacrosse team that compete in the Western Lacrosse Association. They play their home games out of the Q Centre arena at West Shore Parks and Recreation.
Host a major event
Starlight Stadium, the home of the Rugby Canada Senior Women 7s team, Pacific Football Club and the West Shore Rebels, is Langford’s main sporting hub. Labelled the largest outdoor stadium in the region, Starlight boasts 6,000 seats (with additional capacity on the turf for concerts), 18 VIP suites, two concession stands, a separate stage area and an event plaza complete with palm trees, picnic tables and a fountain. The artificial turf field can be covered to accommodate a variety of happenings such as concerts, food festivals and other arts and cultural events. Located on a main bus route, event attendees can transit from outside the City or utilize one of the nearby park-and-ride locations. The stadium also has plenty of parking options and bike racks available. The Stadium has a state-of-the-art sound system and screens to complement any event.
