CLOSELangford is proud to be the home of Rugby Canada.
Training year-round on Vancouver Island, Canada’s international teams have achieved unprecedented success in recent years. Canada’s senior women claimed a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics while also acting as perennial contenders at every stop of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series cup title at the 2017 Singapore Sevens while both programs are the defending Pan-Am Games gold medalists.
Starlight Stadium has also been the host of several international test matches through the America Rugby Championship while also hosting the annual HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens.
In 2017, the Al Charron Rugby Canada National Training Centre was built at 3019 Glen Lake Rd. The 1,900 square metre, two-storey performance training centre allows all of Rugby Canada’s teams to train in a single location while also supporting the training needs of other high-performance amateur athletes in the region.
Rugby Canada’s continued presence in Langford promotes national and international interest and creates pride and spirit within our city for the high level of recreation facilities we enjoy. International rugby matches hosted at the City Centre Park facilities against the world’s best have provided high-end entertainment and excitement value. Given the fan-base, not just on the Island but throughout BC and Canada, Langford’s vision to become a recreation hub for Vancouver Island is more than met in this venture.
