Economic Development Strategy Survey
Langford’s Draft Economic Development Strategy is ready for your review. Over the past year, the City has worked closely with residents, businesses, and community partners to develop its first formal Economic Development Strategy. Guided by community input and best practices, the Strategy sets a shared direction for Langford’s economic future.
This is the final phase of public consultation and your opportunity to share feedback on whether the Draft Strategy reflects your priorities for Langford’s economic future.

Housing Strategy Survey
The City of Langford is making a plan to address housing challenges in the community. At the same time, the City is updating how it secures contributions from developers toward affordable housing and community amenities like recreational facilities, public plazas, libraries, and daycares so the requirements apply to all new development, and the rules match new provincial legislation. Langford community members are invited to share their perspectives on housing and community amenities by completing a short survey.

Job Description:

 

Would you like to be part of a dynamic, fast paced, award winning local government organization?  A team that prides itself on providing cost effective local government services for local residents?  Do you have the right attitude, qualifications and superior people skills for the job?  If so, the City of Langford invites you to apply for a Technical Field Arborist position!

As our Technical Field Arborist, you will support the development, implementation and maintenance of the City’s programs, policies, and processes related to the Tree Protection Bylaw, reforestation plan, municipal tree inventory, service requests, and tree maintenance. This position performs a combination of office and fieldwork to optimize the health and survival of all City owned trees. As a technical expert, this position will determine the appropriate treatment for diseased and injured trees in City Parks and the urban forests, and coordinates removal and replacement with contractors.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Technical school diploma in Natural Resources Management or a related field and five (5) years’ related experience ideally in a municipal government environment (or an equivalent combination)
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) certification is an asset
  • Wildlife Dangerous Tree Assessor (Parks and Recreation module) is an asset
  • Valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5)
  • Considerable knowledge of tree species, diseases and integrated pest management methods
  • Considerable knowledge of arboricultural methods, practices, materials and equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints, sketches, plans and diagrams
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently plan, organize and manage workloads and projects, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
  • Ability to plan, assign and evaluate the work of contractors, analyze complex data and resolve problems
  • Demonstrated ability to properly use and maintain a variety of forest measurement and mensuration tools
  • A sense of humour with the ability to take your work seriously but not yourself.

 

The salary range offered for this full-time position is $46.64 – $54.87 per hour (2024 rates) plus an excellent benefits package including one of Canada’s top pension plans, and a 35-hour modified work week with flex days. For more information, please refer to the attached position description.
