Long before Victoria became famous for its flower baskets and afternoon teas, it was a colonial trading post where tea arrived by ship, signalled status, and shaped social life in ways that still echo today. This workshop traces that journey, from the fur trade era through British colonial culture, the Empress Hotel’s iconic tea tradition, and into the thriving local tea scene that exists right here on Vancouver Island today.

In this 90-minute guided experience, we’ll explore how empire, immigration, and island identity all found their way into the teacup. Each tasting is paired to a chapter of that story, connecting you to the land, the history, and the communitea.
