City of Langford’s Official Community Plan Named Finalist for Canadian Institute of Planners Award

(Langford, B.C.) – The City of Langford is pleased to announce that its new Official Community Plan (OCP) has been shortlisted as a finalist for a 2026 Award of Excellence by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP). The shortlist was released earlier this week as part of the Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence 2026, which recognize the most innovative, impactful, and well-executed planning projects across the country.

The City of Langford’s Official Community Plan shares its place among a select group of standout projects from municipalities and organizations nationwide. The Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence celebrate submissions that demonstrate leadership in planning, meaningful community impact, strong implementation potential, and exceptional clarity and quality of presentation.

“Langford’s refreshed OCP marks an important milestone for the city, guiding quality growth, focusing density where it makes sense, and supporting real transportation choices for residents,” said Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford. “The Plan was developed with feedback from the community and shows that Langford is dedicated to creating a vibrant, welcoming community where residents can continue to thrive.”

Adopted in 2025 following extensive public engagement, Langford’s Official Community Plan represents ambitious, transformative, action-oriented planning. It is a turning point in vision and culture, grounded in the community’s long-term goals and aspirations. The Plan integrates community values with a comprehensive approach to urban health, recognizing a broad definition of well-being that extends beyond traditional metrics to include climate action, housing affordability, social equity, social connection, and economic resilience. It also aligns with regional and provincial priorities and supports coordinated, long-term investment that will guide Langford’s growth in the years ahead.

Final award recipients will be announced at the national planning conference in July 2026. In the months ahead, CIP will undertake a further review of all shortlisted submissions. The City will continue to keep residents informed as additional details become available.
