CITY OF LANGFORD SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT FOR NEW MASTER PLANS

(Langford, B.C.) –  The City of Langford is hosting an Ideas Fair on Saturday, March 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Langford Legion (761 Station Avenue), and invites residents and community members to participate and share their ideas around a variety of community planning initiatives and current master plans under development, including the Transportation Master Plan, Active Transportation Plans and the Parks and Trails Master Plan.

This event provides a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, provide feedback, and ask questions of the City planning staff and subject matter consultants. Additionally, the Ideas Fair will include a public engagement opportunity by the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society on its Facilities Master Plan. The event will have light refreshments, and a variety of activities for children.

In addition to attending the Ideas Fair, residents are encouraged to provide feedback through two surveys, Transportation Master Plan and Active Transportation Plan, and The Parks and Trails Master Planthat will be available on the City’s online engagement platform, Let’s Chat Langford, starting Wednesday, March 12.

The Plans are part of specific objectives in Council’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan and build on the work of the City’s ongoing Official Community Plan (OCP) refresh, which is now in its final stages of public engagement. A draft OCP will be made available for public feedback in the coming few days. More details to follow on Let’s Chat Langford/OCP.

The City encourages residents, property owners, non-profit organizations, and businesses to attend the Ideas Fair and contribute their ideas and suggestions in planning the future of Langford.

Quick Facts:

Transportation Master Plan (TMP) and Active Transportation Plans (ATP)

The TMP and ATP will be Langford’s first official guide for long-term planning and development of the city’s transportation network. The ATP will be developed alongside the TMP and will focus on providing greater choices for walking, rolling, and cycling around the community. The ATP will significantly help reduce the growing pressure and congestion on the existing road network.

The Parks and Trails Master Plan

The Parks and Trails Master Plan aims to help the City assess how well its parks and trails serve residents now and in the future as Langford grows to 100,000 residents. Once completed, the plan will guide decisions on acquiring, developing, enhancing, and managing City parks and trails for the next 10 years or more.

West Shore Parks & Recreation Facilities Master Plan

The West Shore Parks & Recreation Society is seeking community input on the need for recreation and sports facilities. This project will lead to the development of a well supported report summarizing community needs for recreation and sport facilities in the Westshore. The final report will offer guidance on the types of facilities in demand and how the Society and the Councils can address that demand.

The project concludes in Fall 2025, with the survey open until March 17, 2025 that can be assessed here: Westshore Parks & Recreation Facilities Master Plan.
