Requirements for Election Candidates
A person who has not been disqualified from seeking or holding elected office may become a candidate in local elections. A candidate for mayor, councillor, or school trustee must:
- Be 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day;
- Be a Canadian citizen;
- Have been a BC resident for at least six months prior to filing nomination documents; and
- Not be disqualified by law to hold an elected office.
A Notice of Nomination will be posted on this page in early August. The Notice will outline information about the nomination process, qualifications for office, campaign period expense limits, and third party advertising limits.
Nomination Packages
Nomination packages will be available for pick up at Langford City Hall starting on July 27, 2026. Nomination documents will only be accepted during the nomination period, from September 1 – September 11, 2026. Interested persons must return the nomination documents to City Hall by making an appointment with the Chief Election Officer. This is an opportunity for the Chief Election officer to review critical information with the potential candidate and witness the signing of form C2 – Nomination Documents.
Nomination documents will be available for public inspection and posted online.
