Campfire Ban Remains in Effect - September 3, 2026
Advisory September 3, 2026: The fire danger rating for the City of Langford is still at HIGH/EXTEME fire risk for our area, and Langford Fire Rescue will NOT be lifting the campfire ban today.
Langford Fire Rescue will review the daily fire danger reports and revisit the campfire ban once conditions are safer.

Effective on Thursday, July 16 2026, at 12 p.m. (noon), all open fires, including campfires, are banned across the Coastal Fire Centre. All permits are suspended and no new permits will be issued until further notice. Portable campfire apparatus that uses gaseous fuels such as propane are still permitted as long as they are CSA or ULC approved and the flame height is less than 15cm.

Job Description:

If so, the City of Langford invites you to apply for a temporary, full-time Engineering Technologist position with our Engineering Construction Department!

 

As an Engineering Technologist with our Engineering Construction department, you will perform a combination of office and field work pertaining to municipal infrastructure, land and subdivision development. In this role, you will review engineering design documents, process permits, and perform field inspections as required.

 

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institute in Canada, and at least one (1) year related experience (or equivalent)
  • Experience in municipal sector is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of municipal bylaws and engineering specifications pertaining to municipal infrastructures
  • Eligible for membership with ASTTBC as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) or EGBC as an EIT
  • Valid BC Drivers’ license (Class 5)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and
  • A sense of humour with the ability to take your work seriously but not yourself!

 

The salary range for this temporary, full-time position is $41.63 to $47.31 per hour, plus 13% in lieu of benefits and vacation. Please refer to the attached job description more information and a detailed job position description. The anticipated term for this position will be early June 2026 to June 2027.
