Policy Analyst and Legislative Drafter

As the Policy Analyst and Legislative Drafter, you will play a role in shaping major policy and legislative initiatives by conducting research and applying analytical skills to the development of the City’s bylaws and policies. You will support the creation, review, and revision of the City policies and bylaws, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and alignment with organizational goals. You will also engage in cross-departmental collaboration, providing policy guidance, managing public engagement efforts, and preparing reports for leadership.
Qualifications for this position include:
- Post-secondary degree in political science, public administration, or a related discipline, plus three (3) to five (5) years of related working experience, with at least two (2) years drafting and amending policies and legislation (or an equivalent combination of education an experience)
- Experience with acts, regulations, and policies applicable to Local Governments
- Proficient in software tools, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams) and Asana with the aptitude for using new software
- Ability to conduct research, analyze information, evaluate options, and apply findings to policy and legislative drafting
- Strong understanding of legislative processes
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, particularly in drafting precise legal language and conveying complex information clearly
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships both externally and at all levels of the organization
- A commitment to excellent customer service, continuous improvement and life-long learning
- A team player with a strong work ethic
- A sense of humour, with the ability to take your work seriously but not yourself

The salary range for this temporary, full-time position is $47.81 to $56.24 per hour, plus an excellent benefits package including one of Canada’s top pension plans, and a 35-hour modified workweek schedule with flex days.
