LANGFORD COUNCIL APPROVES THE CITY’S FIRST ARTS AND CULTURE STRATEGY
Setting the foundations for Langford’s future as a champion for arts and culture
(Langford, B.C.): At the June 15, 2026, Council Meeting, Council adopted Langford’s first Arts and Culture Strategy, taking proactive steps to support expanded and focused arts and cultural development in the community. The Strategy, developed extensively alongside the community over the past year, aims to cultivate a thriving creative economy, position Langford as a champion for arts and culture, create more spaces for arts and culture to thrive, and ensure that everybody has access to the arts.
The Strategy outlines the necessary steps to help grow the community’s arts and culture scene, reflecting the community’s identity and fostering an inclusive environment. Building on efforts to date, the Strategy recognises that culture already lives in Langford and seeks to amplify, support, and create space for its future growth. As Langford’s population increases, the Strategy sets to serve and celebrate the growing demographic diversity found in the community.
“Langford is a vibrant, diverse community filled with creativity and passion for the arts,” said Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford. “Harnessing and celebrating the creativity that already lives here is at the heart of this work. This Strategy will help guide Langford’s future as a champion for arts and culture, reflecting who we are as a community and solidifying Langford as a progressive destination for the arts.”
Identified in the Strategy are key strategies including ensuring affordable and accessible arts and culture programming for all, offering varied arts and culture experiences, building out cultural capacity within the community and the City, fostering future partnerships, embracing innovation, collaborating with local First Nations, and identifying demand for new creative spaces and cultural facilities. In addition, the Strategy highlights the importance of a future placemaking strategy, bringing identity and a sense of belonging to Langford’s public spaces.
The Arts and Culture Strategy complements Langford’s recently refreshed Official Community Plan, and Economic Development Strategy, informed by economic data and trends, community input, and economic development best practices. Langford’s Economic Development Strategy sets a path forward to address the community’s growing need for more local jobs, affordable and available housing, a downtown that reflects the City’s ambition, and an economy built to last.
