LANGFORD’S IDEAS FAIR RECAP: A RESOUNDING SUCCESS!

LANGFORD’S IDEAS FAIR RECAP: A RESOUNDING SUCCESS!

(Langford, B.C.) – The City of Langford held an Ideas Fair on Saturday, March 15th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Langford Legion. Over 160 residents and community members attended the event and shared their feedback and ideas about parks, trails, recreation, transportation, and active transportation in Langford.

The well-attended event provided an opportunity for residents and community members to participate in the formulation of Langford’s current master plans under development: the Parks & Trails Master Plan, Master Transportation Plan, and Active Transportation Plan, as well as West Shore Parks & Recreation’s Facilities Master Plan.

“The Ideas Fair provided an engaging format for community engagement and collaboration, fostering a sense of shared purpose and vision for the future of Langford,” said Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford. “Council is committed to increasing engagement opportunities to ensure that all community members feel seen and heard.”

Attendees shared their feedback through a variety of engagement activities and had the opportunity to speak with both City staff and consultants to learn more about the master planning process. The engagement activities included a mapping exercise where attendees placed pins on priority areas of the transportation network. Another activity, titled “Be a Transportation Engineer for the Day,” allowed participants to select priorities by placing a set number of beads in a jar. Additionally, children were invited to draw their route to school, highlight what makes their neighbourhood special, and illustrate their favourite places to hang out with friends. These various methods provided a unique opportunity for residents to express their feedback through different methods.

Plans currently under development were identified as specific objectives in Council’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, building on the work of the City’s Official Community Plan refresh, now in the final stages of development.

Langford residents and community members are encouraged to provide their feedback for the Parks & Trails Master Plan by April 27th and the Master Transportation Plan and Active Transportation Plan by April 9th through surveys that are available on the City’s engagement platform, Let’s Chat Langford.

Quick Facts:

Transportation Master Plan (TMP) and Active Transportation Plans (ATP)

The TMP and ATP will be Langford’s first official guide for long-term planning and development of the city’s transportation network. The ATP will be developed alongside the TMP and will focus on providing greater choices for walking, rolling, and cycling around the community. The ATP will significantly help reduce the growing pressure and congestion on the existing road network.

The Parks and Trails Master Plan

The Parks and Trails Master Plan aims to help the City assess how well its parks and trails serve residents now and in the future as Langford grows to 100,000 residents. Once completed, the plan will guide decisions on acquiring, developing, enhancing, and managing City parks and trails for the next 10 years or more.
