Wildfire Mitigation Program

If you don’t have a vehicle, or if you have accessibility needs, please reach out to the Langford FireSmart Coordinator by emailing  or by calling the main Langford Fire Rescue number at 250.478.9555 to discuss how you can participate. It’s important to us that everyone is included in this initiative of creating a resilient city that is more prepared for wildfire risks.

If you belong to a mobile home park, strata, or other neighborhood that would like to participate together, please reach out to the Langford FireSmart Coordinator to discuss bringing a larger, combined load or other options.

The drop-off site will be monitored by staff, and any unaccepted materials will not be allowed to be left at the site and will be left in the vehicle to be properly disposed of by the residents.

This drop-off event is focused on creating wildfire resistant homes which means a focus on flammable, dead and higher risk vegetation.

This is a new program that is being rolled out for the first time, and it is expected that the site will be busy. It is important that there is enough time after the site is filled to have it cleared and all the yard waste and vegetation piles hauled away to the appropriate disposal sites.

Pruned or fallen branches, shrubs, and clippings.

Allowed, but must be kept separate are invasives such as blackberries and scotch broom, and un-chippable vegetation such as leaves, bulk pine needles, roots, and grass.

Invasives cannot be disposed of at the same sites as other yard waste such as branches, shrubs, and clippings – therefore, they will have separate, designated piles at the drop-off site for easy disposal. Keeping them separate will save you time when dropping them off.

Material such as bulk pine needles, leaves, grass clipping, roots and dirt cannot be chipped because they will damage the chipper and need to be disposed of as is. They will also have a designated drop-off bin at the site. Having these separated ahead of time will save you time when dropping them off.
