Steam Donkey adds picturesque winding ascent to Langford bike park

Hiking and uphill biking have a new groove at the Jordie Lunn Bike Park with the introduction of the Steam Donkey trail.

The new trail features a winding ascent through stunning scenery as part of the Gravity Zone at the Langford bike park, according to the city.

Steam Donkey winds its way to the top, where hikers and uphill bikers can access several trails in the Gravity Zone.

The park is named for Jordie Lunn, a prominent member of the mountain biking community on Vancouver Island who competed internationally. Lunn was also known for being involved with big-budget films and hosting local competitions.

A long-time resident of Langford, a city news release described him as a “larger than life character who had a significant impact on the global cycling community.” Lunn died in October 2019 at the age of 36 following an accident while trail riding with friends in Mexico.

The new trail opened Feb. 2.

Access is at the new parking lot at 4200 West Shore Pkwy.
