Trash Haul Weighing the Equivalent of a Wolf Removed From Langford Streets

More than 100 pounds of garbage was collected from the downtown core of Langford – that’s equivalent to the average weight of an adult male wolf on Vancouver Island.

The Greater Victoria Green Team hosted its first cleanup in partnership with the City of Langford on Nov. 4.

The event saw 34 community members remove more than 105 pounds of litter from the downtown core with two groups focusing their efforts along Station and Goldstream avenues.

“The goal of this activity was to promote a sense of belonging and connection among participants and empower them by showing them the positive impact they can have with a committed group of people,” the Greater Victoria Green Team said in a statement.

The organization estimated 8,000 pieces of litter were picked up during the event, including more than 3,700 cigarette butts, 1,000 pieces of plastic, 400 pieces of paper, 140 pieces of metal, 130 pieces of glass and 25 pieces of styrofoam. There were also larger items not included in the total that will be removed by the City of Langford.
