A round of a-paws! Walmart Canada and the City of Langford team up to open Langford’s newest off-leash dog area

LANGFORD, B.C. – Dec. 10 – Pup, pup hooray! Walmart Canada and the City of Langford are doggone excited to open Langford’s newest off-leash space for dogs to run around and play adjacent to the Langford Walmart store.

In a Walmart Canada first, the retailer has entered into a license agreement with the City of Langford for an area next to its store to be reimagined as an off-leash dog space for the growing Langford dog-owner community.

The fetching 21,000 sq. ft fully-fenced area welcomes dogs of all sizes, providing dog owners with a dedicated, secure, and safe space for their dogs to exercise, socialize and play. The City provided funding to cover the costs of fencing, site furniture (bench, garbage bins) and accessories (signage, doggy bags) and will be providing maintenance services for the duration of the license term.

Unleashing our potential

“We’re always looking at our stores – inside and out – and how we can use our spaces to better serve our customers and our communities,” said Derreck Cuschieri, Senior Vice President, Operations, Western Canada. “We’re excited to be working with the City of Langford to breathe new life into once-unused space and forge deeper connections with Langford residents. The off-leash dog area is a wonderful addition to the Langford community.”

“This new space not only allows our four-legged friends to run around freely, but also provides dog owners the chance to meet up with friends, and make new connections, fostering a sense of community spirit,” said Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford. “This is a fantastic example of collaboration between private enterprise and local government working toward the betterment of the community, and in this case, transforming underutilized private land into enjoyable areas for everyone.”

Grand opening paw-ty and poodles of fun

Grand opening festivities, hosted by Councillor Colby Harder, included presentations by Mayor Scott Goodmanson and Julie Chahal, Director, Market Leader, Walmart Canada, ending with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. To celebrate Walmart Canada’s and the City of Langford’s collaboration going to the dogs, invited guests, including local dogs Honeybun, Penny and Inu,enjoyed giveaways and pet and family portraits to commemorate the occasion.
