CITY OF LANGFORD LAUNCHES PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY
(Langford, B.C.) – At the June 15, 2024, Council meeting, the City of Langford announced the launch of Let’s Plan Langford. Together., an inclusive, purposeful public engagement strategy that serves as the community’s opportunity to shape the future of Langford. This inclusive and customized approach to public engagement invites Langford residents and community members to contribute their ideas and feedback across a variety of topics designed to guide the city’s growth and development. As part of this initiative, community members are invited to participate in the launch event, a Community Fun Day on Thursday, July 18, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ruth King Elementary School field.
Similar to other cities of its size, Langford is working on a series of master plans and strategies to ensure staff and Council continue to make responsible decisions that reflect the community’s goals for the future. Over the next 18 months, members of the public will have the opportunity to provide input on these plans including the Official Community Plan Refresh, the Transportation and Active Transportation Master Plans, a Parks Master Plan, an Arts and Culture Plan, and a Climate Action Master Plan to name a few. These plans will ensure Langford transforms to meet the needs of current residents and future generations as Langford grows to 100,000 residents.
“Responsible development and positive growth require active and continual community engagement. Through the Let’s Plan Langford. Together. engagement strategy, we’re committing that the future of Langford will be decided by its residents through active public participation and community feedback,” said, Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford. “This initiative looks ahead, planning for a future where Langford is sustainable, inclusive, and resilient. It’s about creating a city where everyone can thrive.”
The Community Fun Day launch event will feature various activities for all ages, including inflatable obstacle courses, face painting, a BBQ, music, games, sports activities, crafts, and more. The day’s highlight will be the opportunity for community members to participate in the Official Community Plan (OCP) engagement process. Senior staff members will be in attendance to answer questions and gather input on key policy areas that will shape Langford’s development over the coming years. Residents are encouraged to bring their families and friends to join in the festivities and contribute to the future of Langford.
More opportunities to get involved are planned for the coming months, starting with a series of OCP Pop-up events this week:
- July 19: Fridays at the Station 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- July 20: Goldstream Farmers Market 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- July 21: Music in the Park 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The City encourages residents to sign up on LetsChatLangford.ca and follow the City on social media to be notified about various engagement opportunities over the next 18 months.
