Langford Rallies Around The Love of Soccer in Support of the Goldstream Food Bank

(Langford, B.C.) – On November 21st, 2023, City of Langford Mayor, Scott Goodmanson announced the auction of the City Suite at Starlight Stadium for the December 1st Canada Soccer match versus Australia. The online fundraiser to the upcoming event is being held in support of the Goldstream Food Bank during a critical time of need. The auction package includes 30 VIP tickets, and a $1,000 credit towards food and beverage, generously donated by the West Shore Developers Association. The auction was launched live today on the CFAX morning show with Al Ferraby and runs until 8:00pm on November 27th.

“Our hope is that the auction raises a significant amount of money for the Goldstream Food Bank, which needs the community’s support now more than ever,” said Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson. “Council agreed that we should embrace the passion for soccer in the community to raise funds for the Food Bank. I encourage everyone to bid what they can to support the food bank during such a critical time. We know more people than ever are accessing the support of their local food bank, and this is one small way we can give back and rally around the love of sport for a good cause.”

“The West Shore Developers Association is pleased to partner with the City of Langford on this auction to support the Goldstream Food Bank. Tickets for this match sold out very quickly, and we believe many people will be eager to have a chance to see the game. Partnering with the City of Langford and giving back to the community is what the WSDA does, and this is another example of that collaborative partnership.” Ron Coutre, President, West Shore Developers Association.

The Goldstream Food Bank needs support now more than ever before,” said Goldstream Food Bank President, Gayle Ireland. “Every year, we see an increase in the number of people and families using the Food Bank, and this year, we expect to distribute around 700 Christmas hampers. We thank the City of Langford for organizing the auction and the West Shore Developers for their contribution.”

The Canada vs Australia match is game one of a two-game series and the last international series of Canada Soccer’s Christine Sinclair’s career. This match prepares both teams for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with Canada already qualified.

Monetary donations can also be made directly to the Goldstream Food Bank on the Goldstream Food Bank’s website. The Food Bank then uses its purchasing power, which equates to approximately $2 worth of food for every $1 donated, to purchase items in need. Additionally, donations can be made in person at the Goldstream Food Bank, 761 Station Avenue, between 9 AM and 12 PM on the first three Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each month.

Food Banks Canada reports a 32% increase in food bank visits from March 2022 to March 2023, and a 78.5% increase compared to March 2019.
